Sunlight’s Green Steps
Sunlight has introduced Sunlight Green Clean, an environmentally conscious
laundry detergent that helps Canadians choose a “green” product without
having to compromise on cleaning performance.
Sunlight Green Clean is kinder to the earth† because it:
- Includes plant-based ingredients
- Works in cold water, helping to reduce energy use
- Is biodegradable after 28 days*
- Is suitable for standard machines + HE
- The super-concentrated formula uses† 46% less packaging,
25% less water in the manufacturing process,
27% less corrugate and 40% less diesel
It’s our best Sunlight clean**.
†vs. previous Ultra Sunlight liquid
**No other Sunlight liquid cleans better.
*Formula biodegradable after 28 days using test method OECD301D.
Why did Sunlight go “green”?
Sunlight believes that small choices can have a mighty impact on our environment. In 2006 we launched Sunlight Small and Mighty as the first national three times concentrated laundry detergent. Since then, in Canada alone this product has already saved†:
- More than 4.0 million litres of water – that’s more than 8.2 million bottles of water!
- Almost 1.7 million square feet of cardboard – that’s enough to cover 35 football fields!
- 224,000 litres of diesel fuel – you could drive a transport truck from
Vancouver to Halifax
90 times with that amount of fuel. - 324,000 pounds of plastic – that’s the same as 13 yellow school
buses full of people!

Sunlight Eco-Action Kids Awards
In 2007, Sunlight created the Sunlight Eco-Action Kids Awards; a nation-wide awards program that recognized exceptional kids from across the country who made small but mighty changes to improve their environment and community.
18 regional finalists were selected by a group of environmental experts
- Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS)
- Evergreen
- Pembina Institute
- Pollution Probe
- World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF)
- Zerofootprint
Then Canadians voted online for three national winners, one from each age group (6–7 years, 8–9 years, 10–12 years) and they received $1,000 to donate to the environmental charity of their choice and a $1,000 cash award.
The winners were:
- Manuel, 7, from Quebec
- Montana, 9, from British Columbia
- Anna, 10, from Alberta
